This explains what HoopZone collects, what it is used for and who else sees it. It covers the mobile app and this website.
The short version: we collect what the app needs to track your shooting and coach you on it, we do not sell it, and you can delete all of it from inside the app.
01What we collect
- Account information
- Your email address, username, full name, playing position, height and date of birth. Optionally a profile photo and a location label you type yourself.
- Training data
- Every make, attempt and court zone you record, with its timestamp, plus your routines, streaks, calendar activities and the metrics we calculate from them.
- AI coach conversations
- The messages you send the coach and its replies, kept so the conversation has history and so we can look into problems you report.
- Shot videos
- When you ask for an AI shot analysis, your device sends pose measurements and a handful of still frames from the clip you chose. The video itself is not uploaded or stored.
- Subscription status
- Whether your Hooper subscription is active, and the receipt the store gives us to check it. We never receive your payment details.
- Usage data
- Anonymous statistics through Firebase Analytics — which screens are opened, which features are used — so we can tell what is worth improving. It is not tied to your identity.
This website collects nothing at all: it sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from third parties. See the cookie policy.
02Device permissions
The app asks for these only when a feature needs them, and it keeps working if you say no — you just lose that feature.
- Camera and photo library
- To set a profile photo, and to pick or record the clip you want analysed. Frames leave your device only for an analysis you asked for.
- Location
- To fill in the location label on your profile. We do not track where you are and we do not share it.
- Notifications
- To send the training reminders you schedule. You can turn them off in your device settings at any time.
03Why we use it
- To create your account and keep you signed in.
- To calculate your shooting metrics, your heat map and your progress over time.
- To let the AI coach answer from your real numbers instead of generic advice.
- To analyse the shot you submit and give you feedback on your mechanics.
- To unlock Hooper features for as long as your subscription is active.
- To send the reminders you asked for, and the emails a sign-up needs.
- To find and fix problems, and to see which features get used.
We do not use your data for advertising, we do not build profiles to sell, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
04The AI coach and shot analysis
These two features are the only ones that send anything about you outside our own servers, so they are worth spelling out.
When you message the coach, we send OpenAI your message along with a summary of your own training numbers — your accuracy by zone, your streak, your scheduled activities, your position and height. When you ask for a shot analysis, we send the pose measurements computed on your device and a few still frames of that one shot, so the feedback describes your actual form.
We send the minimum each feature needs, never your email, name or contact details. OpenAI processes it on our behalf to produce the reply and does not use it to train its models.
05Who else processes it
We use these services to run HoopZone. They act on our instructions.
- Our own API and database, hosted on Render, which is where your account and training records live.
- OpenAI, which runs the AI coach, the shot-mechanics analysis and the sneaker picks. It receives only what those features need to answer you (see above) and does not use it to train its models.
- Google (Sign-In and Firebase Analytics) and Apple (Sign in with Apple), for signing in and for anonymous usage statistics.
- Apple's App Store and Google Play, which take the payment for Hooper and tell us whether your subscription is active. We never see your card.
- Our email provider, which delivers sign-up confirmations and password resets.
06Storage, security and retention
Your data is held in our database and travels over HTTPS, encrypted in transit. Access to it is limited to what is needed to run the service, and profile photos are not publicly listable.
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account it is removed from our live systems straight away, and it disappears from backups as those roll over, within 30 days at the latest.
Our servers and our processors are in the United States and in the European Union. Where data leaves the EU it does so under the transfer terms in our providers' data processing agreements.
07Children
HoopZone is not meant for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, write to [email protected] and we will delete it.
08Your rights
- See it
- Everything we hold about your training is visible in the app.
- Correct it
- Your profile details can be edited in the app at any time.
- Delete it
- Settings → Delete Account removes your account and its data. If you have already uninstalled the app, ask us by email.
- Take it with you
- Write to [email protected] and we will send you an export of your data.
- Object or complain
- You can object to how we process your data, withdraw consent for anything you opted into, and complain to your national data protection authority.
